This Is My Letter To The World

Beauty in the Decay Series #18

poem by Emily Dickinson

This is my letter to the world,
That never wrote to me —
The simple news that Nature told,
With tender majesty.
Her message is committed
To hands I cannot see;
For love of her, sweet countrymen,
Judge tenderly of me!

The Beauty in the Decay Series
is attentive to the intersection of nature with human-built things;
how nature will have its way.
The captivating presence of the process.

  1. Great pairing: the mail boxes & that poem by Emily Dickinson. Dickinson is my favorite American Poet. Her perverse loneliness matches so well the rusted and abused mail boxes. Fantastic post!

    • thx, yeah, the idea for dickinson came pretty quickly, once i found the mailboxes. yes, her perverse loneliness. sigh. but i don’t think it was for lack of trying. she was a victim of circumstances and of one man who didn’t fully appreciate her genius. yes, like the rusted and abused mailboxes.

  2. so strange: this row of mailboxes got knocked over the day after i took this photo.
